- First, I would like to say, that holding the Olympics every 4 years, is a perfect tradition. It allows for a proper build up to the Games which provides allure, mystique, and importance to each one of the sports. This much is obvious, but the Olympics just wouldn’t be the spectacle that it is if it was held more often.
- The Esposito has been upset at the lack of Bravo on his TV (making him unable to watch tennis) and wasn’t able to catch the basketball game this morning (what f’n channel was it?). But aside from that, The Esposito loves the staggering of events and channels that happens during the Olympics, and The Esposito is additionally pleased with the Olympics because it gives him an excuse to not watch meaningless baseball games. I’d rather watch a gold medal badminton match than a random MLB game in late July. Idk why, shoot me.
- The Lochte-Phelps storyline is pretty intriguing and has been cool to follow thus far. It appears as though Phelps has fallen off a bit, but it still seems as though that Phelps is a world-class swimmer. He supposedly didn’t train all that much and still finished 4th in 400. Sure that could be spinning from the USA to protect Phelps, but who knows. That Sun guy from China is pretty good too, looks like a tough challenger for Lochte.
- Beach volleyball >> Regular volleyball. The rally at the end of the US-AUS match was sick. There seems to be more drama and personal struggle in beach volleyball, and girls in bikinis are usually a win. Though, the spandex shorts of regular women’s volleyball is almost equally as appealing, if not moreso.
- Olympic boxing has been great to match, with some interesting fights. I’m not sure how to feel about Olympic scoring, however. Sometimes, I feel it is great that it is computerized and it allows for boxers to win rounds by more than 1 (yes, I know in boxing you can win a round 10-7 or 10-8, but you need knockdowns). This allows for more unpredictable fights and good theatre. On the other hand, I have watched multiple fights that has had suspect scoring already. They will give a guy 6 points for a round, when in reality, he earned like 10 or somethin’. Not sure how flush a punch has to land for it to actually count, but from my eye, a lot of punches are going uncounted. Plus, the 32 year old guy who lost when the score was 16-16 was tough to watch. They can’t have draws, so they went to a second level of scoring, which he lost. He was distraught and kissed the mat before he exited. Tough to see, as it will be his last Olympic Games.
- Did I miss the judo and Tae Kwon Do stuff? I hope not.
- China making moves in swimming is an interesting development for Olympic Sports. They have almost always been good at diving, but not often in speed races at the Olympics.
- As we speak, China has 12 medals (6 golds, 4 silvers, 2 bronze). The USA has 11 (3 golds, 5 silvers, and 3 bronze). Italy has 7 and is in third.
- Speaking of Italy, Vanessa Ferrari was lookin’ quite beautiful during her floor routine earlier today. She is from the same region in Italy as my family is. Props to her.
- Damn, I guess I did miss Judo:
